Zebra Products, distributor of top European brands, celebrates 25 years in business this month. 

The company started trading in September 2000, its name inspired by Kenya where founders Simon and Lindsay Middleton were married. 

Before Zebra, Simon was employed selling fruit to supermarkets. However, he had a long-held passion for horses – unlike the rest of his family who were heavily into cycling. 

The Middletons initially started Zebra with some clients of Lindsay’s – the Pennys - who enabled it to piggy back on their irrigation business in Lancashire.

“They provided us with a great leg up and without them I’m sure we would have made many more mistakes along the way,” says Simon.

Lindsay, an event rider and coach, squeezed in picking and packing parcels in the early days of the company.

The days are shorter, the temperatures lower, and the weather is grey and wet. It’s winter again! Be honest: do you adapt your horse’s care to the seasons? Your winter stable routine should be different from your summer routine. For example, your horse probably spends much less time turned out than he does in the summer. Perhaps you’ve also clipped your horse? And perhaps you’re seeing the typical winter complaints of weakened immune system, mud fever, or thrush. It’s time to take a closer look at the stable routine in winter!

Sufficient roughage is indeed an essential part of any equine diet. However, this method of feeding necessitates care to ensure that the horse still gets enough vitamins and minerals. Cavalor Refresh Wash is a surprisingly refreshing shampoo. The subtle scent of Eucalyptus has an energizing effect. Ideal for a wash on a hot day or after training where your horse has sweated a lot. Cavalor Refresh Wash, like Cavalor’s other shampoos, is pH neutral. It also contains provitamin B5 and glycerin. These ingredients ensure that the skin remains hydrated and gives volume and shine to the coat. Unlike our skin, which has a natural acidity of 4.0 – 5.5, the optimal pH of the horse skin is 7.0 – 7.4. When we use low pH products such as human shampoos, moisture is absorbed from the skin resulting in dry, flaky skin. Bleaching agents have a high pH, they will absorb the natural sebum, making the skin susceptible to infections. 

What makes Refresh Wash unique? 

Fresh & Clean-Cavalor Refresh Wash has a subtle scent of Eucalyptus, a real treat after sweating!

pH Neutral-Unlike our skin, horse skin is pH neutral (7-7.4). Shampoos that are adapted to the skin of horses are skin-friendly and ensure that the skin remains hydrated. 

Nourishing Formula-Cavalor Refresh Wash contains panthenol (provitamin B5) and glycerin. These coat conditioners give the coat volume and shine. The coat feels soft and healthy.

Directions for use -Wet the horse’s coat to remove loose hair and dirt. Use Cavalor Refresh Wash directly on the coat, or put a little in a bucket of water and use a sponge for a refreshed and clean coat. Rinse shampoo well. Warning: For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes.

An exciting new long format British Eventing competition for riders competing at BE90 and BE100, the Uvex Frickley Cup presents riders with the opportunity to experience long format competition.
The Uvex Frickley Cup saw riders complete a dressage test on the Friday before riding across an extended championship cross country course on the Saturday. The weekend was completed on Sunday with reverse-order showjumping on the final day, followed by a mounted presentation prize-giving.

Former Olympic rower Rachel Stanhope has been chosen as September’s The Howden Way Spotlight Award winner for representing the core values of The Howden Way. As part of her award, Rachel wins a uvex exxential II  riding helmet, courtesy Zebra Products. – the first person to do so. Well-known equestrian wholesaler and the brains behind Zebra Products, Simon Middleton took Champion Title at Frickley Park.

Frickley Park proved to be a successful venue for Simon Middleton, Managing Director of Zebra Products who landed the BE100 Open Regional Championship title riding Goodwins Class. The pair performed a 30 dressage test, followed by four faults in the show jumping and 2.8 time penalties cross country to finish on a total score of 36.8.

“I love Frickley – it’s a super event with a great atmosphere, fabulous courses and a very hospitable host and organising committee,” said Simon. “I’m delighted with Goodwins Class. We’ve had him nearly two years after buying him from Vere Phillips. He’s very talented but we’ve had to take it step by step with him in order to gain his trust. I’ve always known he was super talented but he lacked trust and I feel we’re on the right track now.”
