Uvex sports took over the reins at the helm of the historical glove manufacturer Schwenkel at the start of the year. Deciding to embrace the history and tradition of the company, they have aimed to preserve the 100 year old brand and we will carry on using the name Schwenkel.

For many years Schwenkel has provided the perfect sport glove for the professional sports person and the ambitious amateur alike. The use of premium materials and innovations combined with true craftsmanship and rider input, enables the products to continually evolve alongside the ever changing needs of riders, keeping abreast of technical developments. For example uvex riding gloves are touchscreen compatible thanks to the use of fine, breathable nappa leather, and PU Technical materials.
Hands can also get hot, so uvex has focused on breathability and an active moisture management system with micro perforations on the back of the gloves which transfers heat away from the skin. An articulated four-way stretch across the joints assists flexibility and fit, preventing any bulking of the material.
Yet again, Uvex have taken the best aspects of tradition and craftsmanship and put their own tech spin into the product style, design and materials used. This sets them apart from many equine design houses and offers consumers something a little different.
To see if their products lived up to their marketing two members of the EWW testing team put the Uvex i-performance 2 gloves through their paces.

What our reviewers thought
'I love the i-performance 2 gloves, they are light and breathable, which makes them really comfortable. The mesh on the back of the hand allows for no restriction so I hardly notice that I'm wearing gloves. I had a black pair and have used them for riding every day. They have performed really well, haven't worn and the fit is superb. I have a black pair which I think would be suitable for home or competition use. On the basis of my trial I would like to try other Uvex gloves in the range'.
'I decided to trial a white pair of i-perfomance2 gloves as I do a fair bit of dressage, but also my XC colours are white, so I decided a matchy-matchy option was the way to go! So the gloves were tested in polar-opposite conditions. During the dressage phase I found the gloves were light and helped to give me a consistent feel of contact. They fitted well so there was no bulk of discomfort. During the XC phase the gloves again felt lightweight, but really ventilated so I didn't get hot hands. When the reins got wet the gloves gripped well and during one rather wet XC round they performed excellently. I love the styling and the look of the gloves; they are smart, contemporary, yet discree and classsy. I also think they offer great value for money at £24.95 and will be buying more in the future, maybe a brown pair for home use as they are touchscreen compatible which is also very appealing'.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a mid-price range glove that can be worn in all 3 phases and will last and perform then look towards the stylish i-performance 2 glove by Uvex. Once again they have teamed design with functionality to provide riders with a product that looks great and performs well under rigorous conditions.
The i-performance glove 2 is available in sizes 6 – 11 (including half sizes) in black, white, blue and brown.
